Watermead Country Park North was acquired by Leicestershire County Council in 1982 after the site had been excavated commercially for sand and gravel extraction. Originally farmland on the SoarValley floodplain, the site is bordered by the River Soar and the GrandUnionCanal. The site was opened as a country park in the mid 1980s after extensive development work,
