Wigston Fire Station Company Information
General information
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) provides a fire and rescue service to safeguard almost one million people every day, across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.
There are twenty strategically located fire and rescue stations within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Each fire and rescue station is equipped and crewed to enable effective delivery of not only emergency services in your times of greatest need but also to undertake a great deal of prevention and education within the community in which they serve.
The area within which your fire and rescue station is situated will determine the prevention and education work that is undertaken. Fire and rescue stations may focus on forging links with potential partner organisations and associations in targeting the identified vulnerable members of the community in relation to reducing domestic fires and their devastating consequences.
Similar partnerships will also be sought to reduce road traffic collisions, given that ten people a day lose their lives on our roads. Industrial risks are also encompassed in the stations’ daily routines in operational planning and prevention work.
Regardless of the risks on the fire and rescue station’s patch, firefighters will be undertaking home fire safety checks. This includes a visit by a fire crew or their support staff to your home. The visit will take approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge. The crews will discuss with you how to prevent a fire from starting in your home and what to do if one does start. Various topics are covered which includes kitchen safety, where 66% of fires occur, how to plan your escape if a fire was to occur, what to do at bedtime, how and when to maintain and test your smoke detectors, and in some cases we will even install ten year, single point, smoke detectors free of charge if deemed necessary.
Just in case you wondered what else firefighters may be doing when they are not fighting fires, rescuing casualties and working to prevent fires and accidents through education and planning, then you may see them training, maintaining and testing equipment to ensure that they remain in a constant state of readiness ensuring that they exercise professionalism in their role when called upon.
Our service is delivered from the fire and rescue stations www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/your-fire-service/who-we-are/locations-and-contacts, supported by Service Headquarters www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/contact-us, a dedicated Training and Development Centre, Stores and Workshops.

Our command and control suite deals with about 27,000 calls each year resulting in an average of 15,000 actual emergency incidents each year.
