St John's Carrington

General information

It is an urban parish situated two miles north of Nottingham’s city centre and with a population of approximately 8900. This parish comprises of the districts of Mapperley Park and Sherwood Rise as well as Carrington.

The community has much of the buzz of an exciting modern city culture, and the parish borders with the multi-cultural Forest Fields and Hyson Green, the mixed housing, light industry and green spaces of Basford the more suburban but still diverse Sherwood to the north and Mapperley to the east, . It is a diverse church in many ways, with members from a range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

There are three schools in the parish and they are invited to be involved in the life of the church. Children come to St. John’s to celebrate Harvest and Christmas, and on other special occasions.

The congregation is drawn is drawn from across Nottingham, and many come because of the distinctively Catholic style of worship, and inclusive values at St John’s.

There are loyal members of many years standing and newer faces who have found their way to this church and made a home here
