ASSIST Sheffield Company Information
General information
ASSIST is a Sheffield based charity supporting destitute asylum seekers. Refused asylum seekers are not allowed to work, to register themselves as homeless or to be placed in local authority night shelters. Many become destitute, struggling daily for food, accommodation and clothing.
We support up to 60 people each week with small welfare payments, subsidised bus passes, and accommodation. About half of those we accommodate are housed by volunteer hosts or in houses administered by ASSIST, and the rest sleep in a night shelter that we run. We give signposting information to solicitors and other services to about 20-30 people each week. We can also refer people to a workshop where they can get free renovated second hand bikes and places that offer a range of free food, services and activities.
